About a month ago I went to the doctor and she told me I was not drinking enough water.
Most of our bodies are made of water. I’ve been to The Bodies exhibit and I’ve seen a dehydrated, dissected human body. We are mostly water.
So we are supposed to drink half our weight in ounces of water a day. So if you weigh 200 pounds, you should drink 100 oz of water. I don’t know about you, but that’s hard to do!
I randomly googled ‘water tracker app’ one day and found Plant Nanny. It’s such a cute and fun way to track the amounts of water I drink.
You start off with a little plant and you ‘water’ it as you drink water. And the plant grows and becomes healthy. As they mature, you can ‘retire’ them to the garden and start over with a new type of plant.
My husband and I had a lot of fun the first time we tried this. We would compete to see who could drink the right amount of water first. He won the first time, but I’m certain he cheated.
Benefits of drinking water:
I’m not a health expert and I don’t claim to be. Everyone’s body is different and will have different results with drinking water.
For me, water helped:
Clear my skin: I have completely smooth skin and beautiful skin. It has drastically improved since I started drinking water
I’m more alert: I start my day with at least two 16 oz bottles of water by the time I arrive at work. I have noticed that I’m more awake in the mornings. (I do have one cup of glorious coffee every morning after I get to work.)
I stopped snacking: I read an article that said when you feel hungry, you might actually be thirsty. Drinking water has removed a lot of my snacking tendencies. I can go a whole work day with breakfast and lunch and NO SNACKS!
Weight Loss: I have lost weight while drinking water. As above, I’m not snacking. That means I’m also not eating those calories that I normally would. I’m also not drinking soda or other sugary drinks that would add calories and slow my metabolism down.
Bathroom: I do have to go to the bathroom a lot more. But my kidneys are well hydrated as well as my digestive system.
Increase Energy: I’m not eating or drinking things that can really load my system down. My body is more energized and as a result craves greens a lot more than chocolate.
I challenge you to try to drink more water and see what benefits you might experience.
