The Biltmore Estate: The Oak Sitting Room

This room is my second favorite in the house. It is placed between Mr. & Mrs. Vanderbilt’s bedrooms.

They did have separate bedrooms, mainly due to Mrs. Vanderbilt changing clothes multiple times a day, and it would not be proper to the Mr. Vanderbilt’s valet in the same room. I just learned this on the tour.

The Oak Sitting Room is the place where Mrs. Vanderbilt would meet with the housekeeper and plan her day. It would also be the place of breakfast and evening past time when not entertaining guests.

There are many beautiful pieces of furniture in the room, but the purpose and layout of this room is really appealing to me.
